  When he reached the edge of the ravine, Goliath was still there waiting to fight. When he caught sight of David, his face grew red with rage. In his rage he pushed up the helmet that protected his forehead.
“What is this!” he shouted angrily at the sight of the boy. “King Saul, you must think I’m a dog, or you wouldn’t be sending a boy out to fight me. Look at him! He’s carrying a stick!”
Goliath began to curse and swear as he swung his giant sword from side to side. “I’m going to
get this over quickly,” he shouted, “and then I will leave your body out on the field for the birds and wild animals to eat!”
David jumped down into the
ravine and stepped into the water of
the small creek. He kept his eye on the giant as he chose five smooth stones and put them into his pouch. Then he stood tall and faced the giant towering over him.

 “You come to me with a sword and spear and javelin, Goliath, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the Captain of the armies of heaven and earth!” David shouted loud enough for all the soldiers to hear. Then he pulled a stone from his pouch and slipped it into his sling. “Today my God will deliver you into my hand. But it isn’t my strength or skill that will win this battle!” he added. “It will be the power of Jehovah, and then everyone will know that there is a God in Israel!”
Goliath couldn’t stand David’s words any longer and went crazy with rage! So when the Philistine arose and drew near to meet David, David hurried and ran
